I'm Sophia Markesini, and I'm thrilled to share my journey as the founder of ECCOSOPHY.
This is a story where sandy beaches, travel, and female entrepreneurship take center stage!
I was born in the bustling city of New York but have always held a deep connection to my Greek roots, particularly to the stunning island of Kephalonia.
As a child, my summers were spent on the island, soaking up the sun and playing on the beach.
Those memories stayed with me as I embarked on a career as a flight attendant with Virgin Atlantic Airways.
I'll forever cherish the incredible sense of wonder I experienced when I landed in new destinations and the excitement of immersing myself in diverse cultures.
That's why our towels have names of beautiful destinations across the globe.
But as life unfolded, my role shifted, and I embraced my most important job of all...being a mom.
I enjoyed watching my children grow up but one day I realizing that the nest would soon be empty. This new reality filled me with a mix of emotions. I knew I needed to channel my energy and creativity into something I loved.
That's when my mind took me back to my passion for travel and the beach—the two things I knew like the back of my hand.
And thus, ECCOSOPHY was born—a company dedicated to creating sand-free beach towels and beach blankets that are compact, lightweight, and perfect for travel.
Our products are manufactured with materials that have sand-proof and quick-drying qualities, allowing you to enjoy the beach without the hassle of messy clean-ups.
We want you to experience ease and comfort - just as we used to say before takeoff, "Ladies and gentlemen, sit back, relax, and enjoy!"
The name ECCOSOPHY itself holds great meaning—it stands for "ecological harmony."
From the very beginning, I wanted to ensure that our products were eco-friendly but that was easier said than done.
At the time my knowledge and resources were limited. Little did I know how complex the world of business could be!
As a full-time mom turned entrepreneur, I quickly discovered that building a business from scratch and navigating the ups and downs required skills beyond my expertise.
Through this journey, I've learned that female entrepreneurship demands more than just courage and a dream.
As women, we wear multiple hats—those of wives, mothers, daughters, and CEOs of fast-growing companies. It takes a unique blend of perseverance and faith to balance it all.
And you know what? I've confirmed something I already suspected. As women we have the power and elegance to accomplish anything we set our mind to.
To be honest the grind was relentless, and there were times when I thought about throwing in the towel—pun intended.
Thankfully, I had the unwavering love and support of my family. They quickly rallied to my side, and ECCOSOPHY soon became a family project that we wholeheartedly threw ourselves into.
Before we knew it, ECCOSOPHY was growing and thriving. Today we've outgrown our small inner circle and have invited agencies who share our vision to help us become the brand we've always dreamt of—one that you can be proud to support.
Our first plan of action was to reignite that initial desire to become an eco-friendly brand.
Moving forward we're committed to using post-consumer plastic waste for all our new product lines. Additionally we are committed to giving back to organizations that support our planet because by working together we can make a positive impact in the world.
So, here's to embracing our passions, following our dreams, and making a positive impact in the world.
